New York’s Barclays Center is one of the busiest concert venues in the world, with huge shows put on throughout the year. The arena lies across the water from Manhattan in the suburb of Brooklyn and is serviced by the Brooklyn subway line.
The multi-purpose arena has three main design formats: NBA basketball stadium, NHL ice hockey rink and concert venue. It has a capacity of 17,732 for basketball, 15,795 for ice hockey and around 19,000 for seated concerts. It was completed in 2012 at a cost of one billion US Dollars.
The Barclays Center is set to be the hub of a further $4.9 billion development called Pacific Park. It will have a business incubation center, residential quarters and a retail area.
Permanent residents at the New York’s Barclays Center include the Brooklyn Nets basketball team and the New York Islanders ice hockey team.
Brooklyn is the home of US boxing, and the Barclays Center has put on a good number of top-notch boxing cards. It has been the home base of New York fighters, Zab Judah and Chris Algieri. It has also hosted several World Wrestling Entertainment Events, including the Monday Night Raw televised events every week. As well, the high-profile Ultimate Fighting Championships are held there.
Despite all these big events, the real claim to fame of the Barclays Center is music. Some might argue that the venue is slightly outdated compared to other arenas, but the sound quality is still superb. Hundreds of stars, including Jay Z, Beyoncé, Justin Bieber and many others have performed there.
The Barclays Center continues to be a venue of choice and always attracts the biggest names. The arena contains bars, restaurants and a shopping area where visitors can buy concert merchandise. There are also shops dedicated to the Nets and the Islanders as well as a boxing store.
