The Mercedes-Benz Arena in the German Capital of Berlin is a very popular and versatile event center that can be transformed into a basketball court, an ice hockey rink or a concert platform.
The top capacity in concert mode is 17,000 seated spectators. In basketball mode, the arena holds14,500 people and it takes 14,200 for ice hockey games. Construction of the building was completed in September 2008 at a cost of €165 million.
The Mercedes-Benz Arena is home to Berlin’s Eisbaren ice hockey team as well as ALBA Berlin, a local team that plays in the nationwide German league. Exhibition games from the US National Ice Hockey League as well as competitive international games have also been played at the MB Arena.
Other events hosted by this busy venue include occasional Eurobasket games and Ultimate Fighting Championship meets. It is also used for indoor handball games and indoor beach soccer championships.
One of the biggest names in music, Adele, performed at the MB Arena in 2016, selling out all her shows within a few hours of tickets being put on general sale. Beyoncé also gave a tremendous show there during the German stop on her world tour. Veteran Rockers Metallica gave one of their best concerts at the MB Arena in 2008. Other notable performances include those by Sting, Britney Spears, Muse, Kylie Minogue, Pearl Jam, Madonna, and Jennifer Lopez.
An interesting fact about the arena is that the facade is lit up with 300,000 low-energy lamps. The arena forms part of a larger complex that includes shops, cinemas, a casino, hotel, bars and restaurants.
The arena hotel is modern and the casino offers access to video slots, mechanical slots as well as live games such as roulette and dealer games such as poker and blackjack. The arena is also used for art exhibitions, plays and charity events.
